The New Orleans Saints re-signed the rookie quarterback to their practice squad on Tuesday, Sept. 9, but then he was let go again on Wednesday, Sept. 10. An announcement from the team said this was a corresponding move to open a spot for rookie seventh-round pick Fadil Diggs, a defensive end/outside linebacker who saw some action in their season-opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Third-year quarterback Jake Haener, who was re-signed to the practice squad on the same day as Dekkers, remains in that role. Spencer Rattler is still the team's starting quarterback with rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough running the scout team at practice and backing him up on game days.
